Hello and welcome back, archers. A week from today, many of us will make our way to the wonderful SETU Arena. We will register and maybe get a practice in while we are there. Begin the championships.
So, how many of you have completely lost your mind and have been training like a demon? And some might say, rightly so. I would say that I was guilty of such intense training, which lasted a week before I had to call into question my efforts and this intensity that came with all the thinking that was more like a frenzy of sorts. Why take part in an indoor competition? I had to remind myself that I was using it to try and get into some form for the coming season of club shoots so I may be better and faster. This master plan has backfired on me to such a scale that I have decided to step back and relax, move forward at a casual pace, sedate the illusion of my own creation, and remember that when I step to the line, I am here to do my best in that moment and to enjoy the experience. Loser talk, says the angel on my left, while the angel on my right says it is loser talk also 🙂 🙂
Now, don’t go losing your mind. I’m just saying it’s good to give every one of your personalities a chance to be heard. But seriously, there are going to be excellent archers at this thing, and I think that it is a great gig to get to, being in our country and all of that, but also it’s another first experience to absorb and enjoy. It’s going to be great on so many levels, and with archery, I think there are so many levels that you travel through, but not exactly when you want to travel through. So, while you have been driving family and friends insane with your constant chit-chat about the fact that you’re going to be at the European Indoor Archery Championships, don’t forget to go easy on yourself, to be present, really present, and enjoy it. Shoot awesome, but take it all in. Look around at all the different bows, see who is the best shooter on any given day, and just enjoy.
