Registration & inspection
The bow style selected at registration becomes binding through registration and bow inspection. Equipment must comply with the current TAI Bow Styles rules.

SB SelfbowView bow-style details
Selfbow (SB). A bow made from one grown piece of wood, with a limited exception for two pieces spliced at the handle. The arrow passes over the hand. Shelves, sight windows, laminated construction, backing and bow quivers fall outside this class. Arrows use wood or bamboo shafts with natural feathers. Mediterranean release applies.
PB Primitive BowView bow-style details
Primitive Bow (PB). Longbows, recurves or flatbows built from natural materials such as wood, horn, sinew or natural laminates. Synthetic fibre falls outside this category. The bow has neither shelf nor sight window. Arrows use wood or bamboo with natural feathers. Mediterranean release over the hand applies.
AFc American Flatbow classicView bow-style details
American Flatbow Classic (AFc). Often called Longbow in some countries. The strung bow keeps the string clear of the limbs. One-piece or multi-piece construction is accepted, together with an arrow shelf and, under the stated conditions, a bow quiver. Competition arrows use wood or bamboo with natural feathers. Mediterranean release applies.
AFm American Flatbow modernView bow-style details
American Flatbow Modern (AFm). Follows the same broad flatbow/longbow form as AFc while allowing modern arrow materials. Wood, aluminium, carbon and similar shaft materials may be used; natural feather fletching remains required. Mediterranean release applies.
RBc Reflexbow classicView bow-style details
Reflex Bow Classic (RBc). The traditional horse-bow class. Construction uses wood or other natural materials such as horn or sinew, with static siyahs. Arrows use wood or bamboo with natural feathers. Mediterranean release and thumb release are accepted; Mediterranean shooting places the arrow over the back of the hand.
RBm Reflexbow modernView bow-style details
Reflex Bow Modern (RBm). The modern horse-bow division. Its form follows RBc while synthetic bow materials and modern arrow materials are accepted. Mediterranean or thumb release may be used, with natural feathers required on the arrows.
TRB Traditional Recurve BowView bow-style details
Traditional Recurve Bow (TRB). A wooden or wood-laminated recurve, one-piece or take-down. Fibreglass or carbon may appear within the permitted laminated limb construction. A shelf, centre-cut window and appropriately placed bow quiver are accepted; extra arrow rests, stabilisers and added weights fall outside the class. Arrows may use any shaft material with natural feathers. Mediterranean release or the rulebook's under-grip style applies, with the chosen grip maintained throughout the competition.
BHR Bowhunter RecurveView bow-style details
Bowhunter Recurve (BHR). The most equipment-permissive TAI recurve category. The bow may use any material, one-piece or take-down construction, an arrow rest, centre-cut window, bow quiver and a straight stabiliser up to 30.5 cm. Arrows may use any material. Mediterranean release or under-grip applies, with the grip retained throughout the round.
