Hello folks, my article for this month is my transition from my bows. This is a new topic explaining equipment, so bear with me. So in September 2021, I started archery with Black Castle Archers. At the time, I started like all newbies on a wooden recurve. In my case, I started on a 26lb core archery wooden recurve. It was an excellent starting bow, but I did know in a few months I would have to transition to a style.
In September 2022, I bought a small 26lb metal bow from Shooring style in Meath. It was a Samick Ideal riser and small 26lb Kinetic Honoric limbs. I loved the bow, shooting it as a bowhunter recurve. I shot it for 2 major championships in 2023 and also claimed 2 national records in JMBH-R. Though I did shoot well with it in bowhunter, I did need a reset from an issue that I had. This is where I was introduced to barebow. At first, it felt strange, but I loved it, so I started barebow. After a few weeks, we decided to get proper training rather than training off YouTube. This is where Stringfellow started to train me in barebow. We quickly ran into a problem with the riser; we couldn’t get the negative tiller on it and also the height of the limbs as they were too short for me.
Nick Anton did find out how to adjust the tiller right, but I still felt like I needed a new riser and limbs. In August of 2023, I did get medium 28lb Kinetic vaultage limbs. This was a good move as the shooting was smoother than before. Then, in December, I made a decision to get a new riser, so I went up to Prima Archery in Wexford and picked out a black Kinetic Vygo. This is my current setup, and I am loving it. I have scored 3 national records, and I believe a few golds. I love the stuff I have got from Kinetic and hope to get more in the future. Also, give thanks to the Stringfellow for the hours of training. Hope to see ye again.
